• Changed: Mailer now defaults to a 1 second delay between emails. Mailer is SO fast on a modern CPU, that many of our clients were sending out 200+ emails in a few seconds!! This is great on a corporate SMTP server, but caused problems with ISP's mailservers.

• Added: MSI based installer in preparation for PopMonger 4 bundle. Mailer is now is packaged as a .msi file instead of an .exe. Simply double click the MailerSetup.msi file and the installer will proceed as normal

• Added: New Pause/Resume feature! Mailer can now pause in the midst of sending a mailing.  This feature supports closing/re-opening Mailer and resuming a paused mailing. Changes to the datasource and email merge template while paused are also supported. As always when changing the datasource, you must click 'Mail'->'Refresh Database' for Mailer to see the changes
• Added: Password protected Access Database support! Mailer will now query you for a password to your Access Database if one is required
• Fixed: Deleting a .csv database during a mailing and refreshing the datasource caused Mailer to hang
• Fixed: Deleting a .csv database, clicking 'Refresh Database', then adding a new column caused a crash

• Revamped SMTP settings and authentication. Now autoconfigures itself. Added support for SSL/TLS authentication.
• Removed internal SMTP server.
• Supports SMTP server 'localhost' to use a SMTP server on the local machine. We are now recommending ArGoSoft for that.
• Fixed bugs in HTML import.
• Mailer refreshes its data connection before sending
• Mailer Express service is due to roll out soon. It is in the Mailer interface now.
• Ability to specify alternative port in the Regular version
• Mach5 Subscriber service URL is now in the registry, and uses a Subscriber server base address. This will allow us to (soon) offer Subscriber services that you can host yourself.

Released January 2005: Version 4.2

This is the last version of Mailer which provides Windows 98 / ME support. You may download the Windows 98/ME version of Mailer 4.2 here. The Windows 2000/XP/Vista version is available here.

• Improvement in Excel spreadsheet connection compatibility
• Mailer now supports a simple COM interface so that mailings can be launched silently from other applications or from the command line. Documentation here.
• Gold version now supports a "testRun" property via the mailer object so that post-process scripts can tell whether or not the mailing action is actually a test run or a live run.
• Proxy support

• New mailing option under the file menu is now simpler
• Delimiters are no longer required <? and ?> for js and vbasic postprocessing scripts
• Script settings moved out of the Mail Merge Info dialog and put into the Mailer Options dialog where they really apply, since they are global Mailer options (not mailing specific).

Released July 2004: Version 4.1

Version 4.1.240 is available for download. This will be a free update for all version 4 users. Critical update.

• Bug fix in case sensitivity of do-not-email lists. If you are using this feature, this is a critical update.
• We have updated the X-Mailer header in this version. Some hackers registered licenses from us using stolen credit cards and have used our software to send spam, and so we have found the former X-Mailer header on some spam filters. To ensure deliverability, please use the latest version. If you are using the Regular license, this is a critical update.
  
  We are committed to keeping our X-Mailer header both accurate and also out of spam filtering systems.

Version 4.1.228 is available for download. This will be a free update for all version 4 users. It includes PopMonger 2.0.18.

Version 4.0.76 - Mailer 4 released!

Mailer has the same great interface. New features are implemented simply and unobtrusively. PopMonger... well you have to see it for yourself!

General Mailer Improvements:

• HTML Import. Upload your mailing and graphics to a webserver, and load it directly into your mailing with correct image tags.
• Thread Throttling. Now you can precisely control how many emails go out in any given time period.
• Global Exclusion List. Set up one "do not email" list for all your mailings.
• Customizable From and Reply-To. Now you can pull the From and Reply-To names and email addresses from your database.
• Per-Mailing Exclusion and Inclusion Lists: Makes restarting a halted mailing easier.
• Exclusion List Extra Fields: Now you can have extra information in your inclusion an exclusion tables, such as a date of subscription, which will be disregarded in the list handling.
• Startup configuration improved.

Mailer Gold Improvements:

• Precise Header Control. Inside your script you can change any mail header (except X-Mailer). Easily add your own mail headers.
• Per-Mailing Format Control. Use your script to honor recipient preferences to send either HTML or Plain Text or both. Each recipient can get what they want.

Scheduler Improvements:

• Periodic Sending: Send an email batch every hour or every 5 minutes if you want.
• Fixed Daily Mode Scheduling: Guarantee that a mailing will start at a certain time every day.

PopMonger Improvements:

PopMonger 2 has been completely rewritten, but it is still free. As a standalone program it can:

• Poll any single mail account (POP3, IMAP, or MAPI)
• Apply complex filters to incoming email and add the sender's address to any text-based list
• Easy Setup Wizards for subscription requests and message failure handling
• Track Dates Store event dates in lists
• Clean your inbox. Optionally delete messages from the inbox

PopMonger is designed to be used with Mailer. With a registered (not necessarily purchased, since Mailer 4 can be free also) version of Mailer present, it can also:

• Poll Multiple Accounts
• Redirect or reply to email to different mail accounts using Mailer's sending preferences
• Scripting. With Mailer Gold registered, Process arbitrary VBScript and JScript scripts
• Survey Processing. With Mailer Gold registered, parse survey responses and add results to a database (as coded up in your script)

Version 3.5.59.163 - a free update for all Mailer 3 users! Just download and install.

Version 3.5.59.163 - recommended maintenance update. Oct 30, 2003

• We goofed! The previous release was in fact a pre-release version of our Mailer 4 build. It had some Mailer 4 features in it, along with some bugs. Please accept our apologies for that error! Our developer is hiding under the desk. All those who purchased Mailer 3 after September 1, 2003 will get a complimentary upgrade to Version 4 when it is released.
• This build of Mailer 3 fixes just the attachment problem from release 54 below, which was a critical bug for some customers.

Mailer 3.5.58.174 - recommended maintanence update. Oct 17, 2003

• Some attachment filename extensions were being corrupted with removal of the last character of the filename extension. We've finally found and were able to fix this bug.
• List restrictions moved into the mail information dialog.
• This is the last release of version 3 prior to release of Mailer version 4 (stay tuned!). All those who purchsaed Mailer or an upgrade to Mailer 3 after September 1, 2003 will receive a complimentary upgrade when Mailer 4 is released.

Mailer 3.3.54.162 - recommended maintanence update.

• Mailings sent from the scheduler now honor the inclusion list and exclusion list.
• Numerous wording changes to make getting started easier.
• Visual Basic and Javascript conditional insert now insert correct syntax for those two languages.

Mailer 3.3.52.159 - recommended maintanence update.

• Plain text portions no longer show up as attachments with inlined images in HTML.
• The '+' sign and other special characters are now allowed in an email address.
• The scheduler now uses the same timeout settings as are in Mailer's program options.
• A bug in sending PDF attachments is fixed.
• While PopMonger was recording email addresses as all lower case, Mailer's exclusion list was matching them case-sensitive. Mailer's list restriction function is now not case sensitive.
• Changed the license agreement to make it more legible and understandable.

Mailer 3.3.45.150 - a minor update. No download necessary unless you are having problems.

• We fixed a bug in Excel data source connections.
• Mailer 3 how has a Free version, in addition to the Gold and Regular versions. For a complete comparison of different versions, check here. The free version appends "Powered by Mach5 Mailer" to the end of mailings, can send 200 messages at most, and has a few other limitations, but otherwise is fairly useful.

Version 3.2 - a free update for all Mailer 3 users! Just download and install.

Mailer 3.2.42.143

• We changed the scripting language delimiters (markers) from { } to <% %> so that it is easier to put the curly braces in mailings (as may appear in Javascript of HTML for instance). Old mailing files with the old delimiters will still function correctly. This makes editing HTML messages much easier.
• We added a note about spam to the installer and took out the notice "Not licensed for uce" from the mailer header, as some of our customers did not think this was professional. Now the Mach5 Mailer header just has some numbers in it, a portion of the registration code, and the email address "[email protected]" where ISPs can send complaints. The Gold version does not include the email address in the header, but still includes the other numbers. We think this appears much more professional. Note that we do not divulge customer information to others, even those who complain about spam.
• Mailer now works with direct connections to Access views, and is not limited to tables.
• We added major enhancements to PopMonger allowing it to filter bounces from servers that send eml attachments back, as well as the ability to filter bounces from mailings sent from programs other than Mach5 Mailer. We also fixed a few cases where PopMonger would hang trying to read in a message in the mailbox.
• Some problems with the installer have been fixed for Windows9x systems
• We fixed some problems with the internal server, causing failure on systems with limited memory sending very large mailings. (Internal SMTP server not present in versions 4.3 or higher)
• A scheduler bug that caused email not to be scheduled was fixed, and we tweaked the status indicators to make them easier to understand.
• Gold version: Image attachments may now be inlined in html code.

Version 3.1 - minor interface and feature changes, and bug fixes.

Mailer 3.1.31.115 and 30.114:

Known issues:

• The package installer says 3.0. It's 3.1.
• The internal server does not deliver messages if the DNS is not set up properly, with little feedback about the problem. Check the DNS server logs and status to make sure it is sending.
• Direct connections to Access queries still do not work. Dorect connection to Access tables work fine though. The workaround is simple though: just go through ODBC (Gold version), or export the query result to an Excel spreadsheet or text file. This turns out to be a very complicated issue.
• Windows 98 installation's ODBC package gets an error, which is harmless for the regular version. You need to install MDAC first in this case. Info on the troubleshooting support page.

• (This release had some problems with mail delivery and has been discontinued)
• We've had problems with the scheduler. It works now. However, under some circumstances, you will have to create a new mailing file and use that with the scheduler. To confirm that the scheduler is sending email, click the "Task Options" button and look at the History tab. If it has messages about XML format errors, you will need to create a new mailing, and copy over any filters and text from your old mailing.
• The log files now include detailed statistics about the mailing (or about the test run).
• Fixed a formatting issue with the currency and time data types.
