Analyzer will generate its report after analyzing your log files directly. You must tell Analyzer how to access your log files. We provide three options for accessing your log file data, described below.
Select this option if your log files are stored on your hard drive or on a drive or directory that is accessible through the Windows Network Neighborhood. You will need to know the path to your log files on your system where you run Analyzer.
Select this option if your log files are stored on a FTP site. If a 3rd party hosts your web site, this is the most likely option. You will need to have on hand the log file location and FTP information as provided by your web host.
You can also retrieve your log files off the web. If your website allows directory listings, Analyzer will be able to examine the directory contents and extract the log files from the directory listing on your website. You can tell whether or not your server provides a directory listing by going to a URL like "http://yourdomain.com/logs/" to see if you get a list of files available.
In some situations Analyzer may not be able to understand your directory listing, particularly if it contains other links to files that are not actually log files but appear to be log files. Without a clean directory listing capability, this option is limited to analyzing one log file.
If your webserver provides your logs in a password protected directory, you will be able to enter in the username and password so that Analyzer can access your log file.
FastStats Analyzer will, by default, try to figure outyour log file format automatically. Some web servers, however, produce logs that look exactly like standard formats in layout but actually put data in different places. If your server format is listed in this pulldown menu with an asterisk, then you may want to tell FastStats what kind of server you are running. Also, if FastStats incorrectly identifies your log format, you can force it to use a specific layout by choosing the format from the pulldown menu.
If all of your log files come from the same web server, you can also set a global option so that all new projects are automatically set up with a default log format initially. If you do choose a global log format option, you can still override it on a per-project basis, and your global choice for default project will not affect existing projects.
Please do make sure that Analyzer supports your specific log file format.
